SKD鋼は、高炭素高クロムの合金工具鋼です。耐摩耗性と靭性に優れたため、切れ味の持続性や耐久性が求められる包丁に適しています。
また、SKD鋼材（特にSKD11）は、高いクロム量の合金工具鋼であり、錆びにくい性質は持っていますが、完全なステンレス鋼ではありません。そのため、一般的なステンレス鋼より錆びやすいため、使用後の手入れが重要です。
